Newport passport office to be closed to applications

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) office in Newport will stop processing postal and online applications from March 2012.

Following a 150 day consultation the Home Office have confirmed that whilst the office will continue to run a customer service centre at Newport for South Wales and South West England, applications will be processed elsewhere.

Applicants in the region are advised to check the Passports section of the DirectGov website for the latest details on where to send their applications.

The retention of the customer service centre means that 150 jobs will be retained. This is apparently more than were provided for in the original proposal.

The press release, including links to the responses to the government’s consultation, can be found on the UKBA website.
