Immigration fee increases proposed, changes due in April 2012
Increases in visa fees have been proposed to Parliament by the Immigration Minister, Damian Green, and it is planned that the increases will come into effect on 6 April 2012.The UK Border Agency (UKBA) have advised that, in the majority of cases, fees will increase by around 2 per cent. Certain routes will see a higher increase such as onshore Tier 1 visa applications and Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer applications made outside of the UK.
The proposed increases will be presented to Parliament in two stages. One of the proposals will cover fees in visa categories where the fee is more than the processing cost, or to put it another way the visa categories which make the UKBA money.
You can see the full details of these proposed changes - including the costs incurred by the UKBA for processing visas - in the document Written ministerial statement: charging for immigration and nationality services 2012-13 (PDF, 317KB).
The second of the proposed revisions to the fee structure will cover the other categories where the UKBA runs the applications system under cost to ensure certain categories remain affordable for people who may not have much money.
You can find the complete details of the UK Border Agency provisional fees from April 2012 on the UKBA website.
