Damian Green answers your questions
Immigration Minister, Damian Green, has announced a Q&A opportunity for members of the public, about the recent changes in immigration legislation.Mr Green will answer questions about the new rules for workers and is taking submissions from the public until 20 April 2011. A film of Mr Green’s answers will be posted on the Home Office channel on You Tube after this.
You can see a video announcement from the minister on the Home Office website. If you have any questions for the Immigration Minister then you can email them to him at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or tweet him @ukhomeoffice, using the hashtag #askdamiangreen.
As this is a quick fire Q&A Mr Green will not enter into complicated discussions on details of policy. As such, it is requested that any questions submitted are:
- on topic
- do not concern individual cases
- brief and to the point
- clear
- not party political
- relevant to the minister’s portfolio
If you have a question that is too long for a Q&A, or is unsuitable as per the above requests then you can contact the Home Office.
The announcement comes on the day that the new limits on Tier 1 and Tier 2 visas, including the annual limits, come into force.
Questions for the minister
There are several questions that we at www.lifeintheuk.net have for the Minister:
- When will the Life in the UK test be updated?
- Is the Home Office considering changing, or improving, the test at all
- Is anything being planned to replace the Earned Citizenship system, given the laws were already passed allowing the changes to be made?
- Does the Minister have anything to say about comments from the Home Affairs Select Committee that the ‘data used in assessing migration figures are not fit for purpose and could inhibit effective policy making.’
- Also, the Committee ‘is not persuaded that students are migrants, as defined by the UN and suggests that students ought to be excluded from net migration numbers’. Does the Minister think the recent changes to Tier 4 of the points based system are appropriate in light of this?
We do not expect that all of these questions will be answered by Mr Green, but we do feel that it is important that they are asked.
If you have any questions about recent policy that you want to ask Mr Green and the Home Office then we strongly urge you to take this opportunity to do so.
