Changes to the Immigration Rules announced affecting Tier 2 visas

As part of the changes to the Immigration Rules put through on 10 October 2011 some minor updates have been made affecting Tier 2 and work permit holders.

The changes were laid before parliament as part of the announcement about the changes preventing NHS debtors from coming to the UK or renewing visas.

These smaller changes were as follows:

  • from 31 October 2011 anyone applying under Tier 2, and work permit holders, will need supporting documents to prove their income before they can be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or settlement
  • rules were introduced to make it easier for certain accredited Olympic and Paralympic participants, including athletes, umpires, technicians, media staff and others holding an Olympic or Paralympic accreditation card, to enter the UK. These changes will come into effect on 30 March 2012 and will end on 8 November 2012
  • minor and technical amendments were made to the rules for spouses and civil partners of settled people, and for unmarried and same-sex partners of settled people. These changes apparently do not affect policy or requirements for your application.
