Biometric residence permits to be made compulsory for all stays over 6 months

From 29 February 2012 anyone making a visa application from inside the UK will have to get a biometric residence permit it they are applying to stay for longer than 6 months.

This new requirement means that many more people in more immigration categories will need to enrol their biometric information with the UK Border Agency (UKBA). For instance, this new rule means that anyone applying for settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) will now have to provide fingerprints and a facial photograph.

You should also note that the application forms for all affected visa categories will change on 29 February 2012 to take account of this. After this date you must make sure that you are completing the current application form by checking the date on the front.

If you have an appointment booked at a public enquiry office on or after 29 February then you must be sure you take the current form with you to avoid delays.
