Fees for settlement (ILR) applications

The application fees are reviewed at regular intervals. You should always check what the fee is before you submit your application. If you submit an application with the incorrect fee then it will be rejected.

There are two fees for each kind of application, one fee if you apply through the post and one fee if you apply in person at a Public Enquiry Office.

The current fees for applications for Indefinite Leave to Remain as at 30 November 2011 are as follows.

Applications using form SET(M) or form SET(O)

The same fees apply for applications made using either of these forms.

For the main applicant the application fee is:

  • £972 if you apply by post
  • £1,350 if you apply in person
The application fee for any children under the age of 18 applying at the same time as dependents of the main applicant is:
  • £486 for each child if you apply by post
  • £675 for each child if you apply in person

How to pay from inside the UK

You must pay the fee in one of the following ways:
  • by cheque in sterling from a UK bank account. The application form will tell you who to make the cheque payable to, you should write your full name and date of birth on the back, and attach the cheque to the front of the completed application form.
  • with a UK postal order. You should write your full name and date of birth on the back, and attach the postal order to the front of the completed application form.
  • with a credit or debit card. The UKBA will accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa (including Electron), Delta or Maestro (including Solo). You can use any Maestro card if you are applying in a person at a public enquiry office, but only Maestro cards issued in the UK if you are applying by post. You must include the card number, the amount paid, the payer’s name as it appears on the card, the ‘valid from’ and expiry dates, the card verification value (CVV) code, the cardholder’s signature and the date. The issue number is also needed for Maestro cards. If you are applying in person at a public enquiry office, the cardholder must be present in order for the payment to be taken.

These are the only ways you can make payment. No other method, including cash, will be accepted.

Payment information on the application form

It is very important that you complete the payment section of the application form correctly. If this section contains any errors, the UKBA will not be able to process your payment. This will mean that your application is invalid and will be refused.
